B-24 BOMBER PILOT/FLIGHT LEADER IN 446TH BOMB GROUP, 20TH WING, 2ND AIR DIVISION, 8TH AIR FORCE, APRIL 1944-DECEMBER 1944. ON D-DAY FLEW AS PILOT OF A B-24 CREW IN THE LEADING AIR GROUP OF THE 1ST WAVE OF THE ENTIRE 8TH AIR FORCE HEAVY BOMBERS AGAINST THE NORMANDY INVASION COAST. Flew second mission over Normandy the same day. As B-24 Lead Crew Pathfinder Pilot, completed 25 combat bombing missions against targets in Germany and occupied France. CAMPAIGNS AND BATTLES: Air Offensive of Europe, Normandy Campaign, Northern France, the Ardennes, the Rhineland. COMBAT DECORATIONS/AWARDS: Distinguished Flying Cross with Oak Leaf Cluster, Air Medal with 5 Oak Leaf Clusters, European-African-Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon with 5 Battle Stars.
