Survived sinking of first USS Wasp. Shipped onto USS Liscome Bay in September 1943. Participated in the invasion of the Gilbert Islands on November 20, 1943. USS Liscome Bay was torpedoed on November 24, 1943 -- ship exploded and sunk in 23 minutes, 642 men were lost, 283 men survived; one of the worst naval disasters of WWII.
