He was wounded in December of 1944 and received a Purple Heart. One month later, during the Battle of the Bulge, he was wounded again and died on January 16, 1945. He again received the Purple Heart. He is buried in Netherlands American Cemetery at Margraten, The Netherlands (Holland).
