United States Prisoner of War Camp, 1882nd Service Command Unit, Army of the U.S. January 1943 - March 1946. He served 3 years, 1 month, 6 days with one eye and two damaged knees. Was in charge of feeding German prisoners of war. They rode trains night and day because no camps or prisons were available. Said he became an expert in preparing mutton camouflaged as beef, pork, chicken & etc. He loved his country and wanted to defend it against the enemy. He enlisted after being reclassified from 4-F. He had a photographic mind and memorized the eye test quickly to pass it. No one knew he was blind in one eye until weeks before his discharge.
