Served 1941-1945 with 504th Military Police Battalion, which earned more battle stars than any other Military Police unit in WWII. He participated in campaigns in Tunisia and Sicily. Was wounded in Italy, received the Purple Heart. His unit witnessed the liberation the Dachau concentration camp and was entrusted with the care of its former prisoners.
