Navy carrier pilot who flew F-6F Hellcat fighter-bombers in the Pacific from the carrier USS Belleau Wood CVL-24 from January 1945 through June 1945. Participated in the first carrier attack (other than Doolittle's attack) on the Japanese mainland. Major action during time aboard was Iwo Jima, Okinawa and several other attacks on the Japanese mainland. Received the Distinguished Flying Cross, Air Medal with 5 Gold Stars, Presidential Unit Citation, American Defense Medal, Pacific Campaign Medal with three Stars, WWII Victory Medal, Philippine Liberation Medal.
