Participated in Normandy Beach invasion on D-Day, June 6, 1944. Wounded in action on July 27, 1944 in the St. Lo area. Hospitalized and went back to action near Aachen, Germany. Wounded again. For both these incidents I received two Purple Hearts. Also received the Bronze Star for Meritorious Service. Received the Expert Combat Metals on Thompson Submachine gun, 45 caliber pistol and 30 caliber machine gun, Browning Automatic Rifle, carbine, bazooka and Combat Infantryman Badge.
