He served aboard the USS Emmons DD-457 in the European and Asiatic-Pacific Theaters, including the Normandy invasion, the Battle of Okinawa and the Battle of Iwo Jima. He survived the sinking of his ship, April 6, 1945. Among his many awards and commendations are a Purple Heart and two Bronze Stars.
