In 1942, I enlisted in the Army Air Corps when a junior in high school and was differed until high school graduation. Then given another deferment until I completed one and one half semesters of college. Then called to active duty and sent to Sheppard Field in Texas. Then sent to Lowery Field in Denver, Colorado. Since it was sensed that the war would soon come to an end and no more cadets needed to be trained I was discharged for the convenience of the government and returned to college.
