Activity During WWII

Served as a Seaman First Class aboard the USS Indianapolis CA-35, flagship of the U.S. Fifth Fleet. The USS Indianapolis CA-35 delivered the primary components of the first operational atomic bomb to the island of Tinian in the South Pacific, July 1945. On the ship's scheduled return trip to the Philippine Islands, it was torpedoed by a Japanese submarine and sunk shortly after midnight July 30, 1945.
