Served 3 years in India with the Army Air Corps. Flew over the Hump into China with supplies. At times they were so short of men that he had to fly as a copilot even though he was a Private, aircraft mechanic. Of the 500 men sent over with him, within a year only 3 were still alive. At one time, he was the sole survivor of a crash and was lost in the jungle two weeks. At the end of the war, no one could go home until he was sent home because he had been there longest.
