I was drafted, at 18, into the Army and assigned to Anti-Aircraft Artillery, Headquarters Battalion. We were the first to see. and be trained on, the 3.7 artillery piece; which with compulsory radar, was intended to hit aircraft in the stratosphere. In the south seas, where my outfit finally landed, it was used to fire over mountains instead. Also our Artillery and Cadre were located in Camp Edwards, but by error we were sent to Fort Bliss, Texas. Started training on the 90mm artillery pieces.
