Showed courageous action during the Pacific Front, earning the Silver Star in the Battle of Guadalcanal in September 1942. Manned gun torrent during battle, in which a 20mm shell hit his helmet. The shell severely dented Warrens helmet causing severe injury, however re-manned his post, shooting down Japanese planes.
