Activity During WWII

DRAFTED AND ENTERED ACTIVE SERVICE ON FEBRUARY 17, 1942. HE LEFT FORT MACPHERSON, GEORGIA FOR A TOUR OF DUTY IN THE SOUTH PACIFIC SHORTLY AFTER COMPLETION OF BASIC TRAINING. HE WAS A TRUCK DRIVER FOR 21 MONTHS, ALL OF WHICH HE SPENT OVERSEAS. HE ALSO DROVE A M-5 TRACTOR AND AN AMPHIBIOUS TRUCK. IN FACT, HE MADE THE LANDING AT OKINAWA BY DRIVING THE AMPHIBIOUS TRUCK. HE MAINTAINED ALL HIS VEHICLES OFTEN HAVING TO WORK UNDER VERY ADVERSE CONDITIONS. AFTER HIS COMPLETION AND ACTIVE ROLE, HE SEPARATED FROM SERVICE ON OCTOBER 14, 1945 WHERE HE RETURNED HOME TO HIS 180 ACRE FARM IN BANKS, ALABAMA. DECEASED AUGUST 2, 1981.
