From 1943 to 1944: Sergeant and Radio instructor in the continental U.S. From 1944 to 1945: Staff sergeant serving with the 11th Combat Cargo Squadron, 3rd Combat Cargo Group, 10th Army Air Force. He was a radio operator and mechanic aboard C-47 cargo planes that flew from Assam Province, India to forward airfields in Burma and then over the Himalayas, transporting supplies to the troops in China.
