Activity During WWII

He was at Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941 when the Japanese attacked. Throughout the remainder of the war, he flew as a tail gunner in B-17 aircraft. Often his squadron were the lead planes in offensive attacks against strategic locations in the South Pacific. He is credited with shooting down three Japanese Zeros during the war.
