Technical Sergeant in the 99th Composite Chemical Company stationed in New Caledonia. This group was a composite group so named because it included a motor pool, supply depot, chemical weapon storage and chemical decontamination groups. The 99th was part of the effort to counter the supposed intent of the Japanese to use chemical weapons against U.S. troops as they had done against forces in Southeast Asia when they invaded there. Fortunately, there was no known usage of chemical warfare by the Japanese against the U.S.
