AWARDED THE DISTINGUISHED SERVICE CROSS FOR HEROISM IN ACTION ON MAY 3, 1945 NEAR SIEGENDORF, GERMANY. FROM AN EXPOSED POSITION WITH HIS MACHINE GUN, HE SINGLE-HANDEDLY ENGAGED THE ENEMY, KILLING OR WOUNDING A SEVEN MAN CREW OF A SELF-PROPELLED GUN, BLEW UP A GASOLINE TRUCK, NEUTRALIZED TWO ENEMY MACHINE GUN POSITIONS, DROVE THE ENEMY FROM HIS FIRING LINE, KILLING TWELVE AND WOUNDING TWENTY, CAUSED THE CAPTURE OF ONE HUNDRED FOURTEEN ENEMY TROOPS. HE IS DECEASED AND BURIED IN PINELAWN NATIONAL CEMETERY, NEW YORK.
