ON AUGUST 19TH, HIS UNIT MOVED TO A BIVOUAC AREA 1/2 MILE SOUTH OF ESSAY, FRANCE. HERE HE BEGAN PATROL WORK AND SET UP ROAD BLOCKS ON THE FLANKS OF THE ADVANCING ARMOR. Norvald served with the 99th Battalion, which was the famous Norwegian American battalion attached to the US Army.
