ENTERED THE NAVY AT THE AGE OF 15 IN 1939 AND SERVED THROUGH WAR'S DURATION TO 1946. HE SAW COMBAT DUTY ABOARD A NUMBER OF SEAGOING VESSELS, INCLUDING THE USS VINCENNES (SUNK NEAR SAVO ISLAND IN 1942) AND THE BABY-FLATTOP USS SHAMROCK BAY, A MEMBER-SHIP OF TASK FORCE 38-58.
