Deferments vehicle completing apprenticeship in the defense industry. Volunteered for immediate induction into Army. Served as Electrician's Mate for 1 year, went to Officer Candidate School (OCS), received commission as 2nd Lieutenant, highest rank 1st Lieutenant. Discharged December 1945.
