Leader of Company E, 331st Battalion, 83rd Infantry Division during the Normandy landing, D-Day plus six. Involved in fierce fighting, captured and served as a prisoner of war during the St. Malo Campaign. Escaped and served in intelligence in England. Returned to combat and wounded receiving front line. Brain surgery, returned to U.S. and Northington General Hospital Tuscaloosa, Alabama.
