Started cadet school April 1943 and served until April 1946. Was in the European Theater in the 15th Air Force, 325th Fighter Group, 318th Squadron, called the Checker Tail Clan. On March 3, 1944 while flying a P-47 Thunderbolt was shot down and held as a POW in Stalag Luft 1 in Barth Germany for 14 months.
