USS Oberrender DE-344, Struck by a Japanese Kamikaze plane on May 9, 1942 off Okinawa. The bomb exploded in the forward fire room killing 24 men. I lucked out, for I was in the number 2 engine room. Also served on the USS Baxter APA-94.
