Entered active service on March 23, 1942 at Fort Benjamin Harrison in Indiana. Entered the European Theater of Operations on June 4, 1942. Served with the 308th Fighter Squadron, 31st Fighter Group. Battles and campaigns in Algeria, French Morocco, Tunisia, Sicily, Po Valley, Naples-Foggia, Rome-Arno, North Apennines, Northern France, Rhineland and Southern France. Awarded the European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with 12 Bronze stars and 1 arrowhead, Distinguished Unit Citation with 1 Oak Leaf Cluster and the Good Conduct Medal. Returned to the U.S. on August 22, 1945. Honorably discharged on August 27, 1945 at Indianapolis, Indiana.
