Activity During WWII

Entered the service on June 6, 1943, at the age of 21. He was trained at Indiantown Gap, Pennsylvania and in North Carolina. He became part of the 377th Infantry Regiment. He served in the European Theater of Operations as part of the Third and Ninth Army in England, France, Belgium and Germany. He was trained as an automatic rifleman. He also had expertise using the M-1 rifle, pistols, rifle grenades and in the area of individual personal concealment and camouflage. He and his outfit provided fire power support to tactical units when capturing and holding enemy positions. He was wounded in the left hand during the war, and subsequently, lost the feeling in one of his fingers. He was discharged on December 12, 1945, at Fort Douglas, Utah after serving in the Army for two years and six months. He was awarded the European theater Medal, the Purple Heart, the World War II Victory Medal, the American Theater Ribbon and the Good Conduct Medal.
