Was called into active duty in August of 1941. Sent to Fort Benning, Georgia, where he was promoted to First Lieutenant. In April of 1942, he was sent to the South Pacific. Served as a Signal Officer in Hawaii. He also served in Australia and New Guinea. In August of 1944, he returned to the States and was stationed at Indiantown Gap, Pennsylvania. From there he was sent to the Pentagon in Washington, D.C., where he served at International Division Headquarters, Army Service Forces. Promoted to the rank of Captain. Discharged in Washington on November 30, 1945. Awarded the Asiatic-Pacific Theater Medal with one bronze star for the New Guinea Campaign and the American Defense Medal for his service.
