After having served in the Marine Corps during World War I, he immediately re-enlisted in the Marine Corps at the outbreak of World War II. Served in Augusta and Lewiston as a recruiting officer. During the war he recruited some of the first women Marines from the state. Discharged in 1946. Awarded the American Defense Service Medal and the World War II Victory Medal.
