Drafted into the Army in 1942, at the age of 30. During the war, he was stationed in Rome, New York. Served as a mechanic, working on Army vehicles. He was injured while serving in New York and was discharged. He was awarded the American Defense Service Medal, the World War II Victory Medal and the Good Conduct Award.
