Activity During WWII

Drafted into the Army on February 1, 1943, at the age of 20. He attended basic training at Camp Swift, Texas and also went to Radio School while there. Was transferred to Camp Polk, Louisiana for advanced training. On January 23, 1944, he was assigned to Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri. He then went to Camp Callan in San Diego, California where he trained with the amphibious service and became part of the 322nd Combat Engineers. He later served as camp cook in San Luis Obispo, California, which is where he received orders to an East Coast embarkation port. On February 19, 1945, he left the United States, and arrived in Le Havre, France on March 3rd.
