Entered the Army in 1942. He attended basic training at Fort Benning, Georgia. Served in the Infantry during the war in the European Theater as a truck driver. He was discharged from the Army in 1946 after four years of service. He was awarded the American Defense Service Medal, European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal, the World War II Victory Medal, the Good Conduct Medal and the Combat Infantryman Badge.
