Drafted into the Army on July 28, 1943, at the age of 18. He attended basic training at Fort Devens in Massachusetts. Served in England, Northern France and the Ardennes during the Battle of the Bulge and also in Rhineland. He was discharged from the Army at Fort Devens on February 13, 1946 after serving for two years and seven months. He was awarded the European-African-Middle Eastern Theater Medal, the World War II Victory Medal and the Good Conduct Medal.
