ASSIGNED TO THE 5TH AMPHIBIAN FORCES IN THE SOUTH PACIFIC INVASION. RECEIVED 6 CAMPAIGN RIBBONS, THE NAVY COMMENDATION, THE UNITED STATES AND PHILIPPINE PRESIDENT UNIT CITATION AWARDS AND THE BRONZE AND SILVER STARS. SERVED AS A GUNNER ON A LANDING BOAT AND TOOK PART IN 7 BEACH INVASIONS. 1942, PHILIPPINES, MANILA; 1943, TARAWA; 1944, KWAJALEIN, ENIWETOK, SAIPAN, TINIAN, PELELIU AND LEYTE GULF. ALSO, WAS A SHARP-SHOOTER AND MANNED A 20MM MARK 14 SIGHT .50 CALIBER MACHINE GUN AND A .30 CALIBER MACHINE GUN. CROSSED THE EQUATOR TOWARDS GUADALCANAL, SOLOMON ISLANDS ON AUGUST 21ST, 1944 ABOARD THE USS LEONARD WOOD.
