Inducted into the Army May 2, 1942 left U.S. for England in June 1942 with the 344th Medical Detachment, later North Africa, Italy, France and Germany. Trained in England before U.S. troops arrived and built supply depots for us Army preparing to invade Normandy. Left England to invade North Africa in the 1st Army at Oran. Left North Africa after German surrender to invade Italy with 5th Army at Salerno. After Rome, served in Florence, Italy. Left to invade Southern France with the 7th army; attached to the armored unit to advance inland along the Napoleonic Trail to Alsace and Lorraine. Wartime service ended at Dachau concentration camp as unit was preparing to train in Southern France for the invasion of Japan before the U.S. bombed Hiroshima. Received the Silver star from General Alexander Patch in Augsburg, Germany for the Battle of Loraine in Alsace.
