JOINED THE U.S. NAVY IN MARCH OF 1943 AT FORT CROOK, NEBRASKA. TRAINED RECRUITS AT FARRAGUT, IDAHO. RECEIVED MORE TRAINING AT MINNEAPOLIS AND NORFOLK. ASSIGNED TO THE NEWLY COMMISSIONED DESTROYER ESCORT THE USS DARBY AS A THROTTLE MAN IN THE ENGINE ROOM. ESCORTED TROOP TRANSPORTS AND ASSISTED IN THE INVASIONS OF GREEN ISLAND, LUZON, PONAPE, LINGAYEN GULF AND IWO JIMA. PARTICIPATED IN THE TRANSPORTATION OF TROOPS BACK TO THE STATES ABOARD THE USS PRESIDENT MONROE. AWARDED THE ASIATIC-PACIFIC THEATER MEDAL WITH 4 BATTLE STARS, PHILIPPINE LIBERATION MEDAL WITH 1 STAR, WWII VICTORY MEDAL, AMERICAN THEATER MEDAL AND THE GOOD CONDUCT MEDAL. HONORABLY DISCHARGED.
