Activity During WWII

HE ENLISTED IN THE AIR FORCE AT 26 YEARS OLD. HE WENT TO NAVIGATOR SCHOOL AND BECAME THE GROUP NAVIGATOR FOR A SQUADRON OF B-17 AIRCRAFT AND LEFT FOR ENGLAND. THE GROUP LEFT FOR NORTH AFRICA, WHICH BECAME HOME BASE. HE WENT ON BOMBING RUNS TO ITALY AND AUSTRIA. HE FLEW A TOTAL OF 54 MISSIONS, WHICH INCLUDED CARRYING TROOPS WHO PARACHUTED TO FIGHT THE ENEMY. IN APRIL OF 1944, HE WAS SENT TO MONROE, LOUISIANA TO BE THE COMMANDANT OF THE NAVIGATOR SCHOOL, WHICH HAD 3,600 STUDENT NAVIGATORS ENROLLED.
