Activity During WWII

293rd Signal Company, attached to the 2nd Ranger Battalion. Led his men, under fire, up 100-foot cliff at Pointe Du Hoc; then directed a naval bombardment of the German position which commanded the Normandy beaches. Killed when a shell hit a concrete gun emplacement near him. He was awarded the Silver Star.
