My brother joined the 4th Division when they were at a rest area in France, following their action on D-Day on Utah Beach and Cherbourg Peninsula. The Division resumed combat on July 7, 1944 and my Brother was killed by machine gun fire in Hedgerow fighting on July 9th. He was a Platoon Leader, a Second Lieutenant.
