Activity During WWII

Duane R. F. Nordenskjold was a college student when his National Guard Group left Red Wing at the start of conflict. At Riverside, California with Unit, he was selected to go east to school for Academics. While there he contracted an illness which killed his room mate. Despite the illness, he was still able to graduate with class as a Lieutenant in Anti-aircraft Service. He was shipped to Africa and served from there into Europe. Men were needed in Infantry so he volunteered. To protect his men, he chose to lead with only one man in front of him and was involved in the explosion of a mine and seriously injured which resulted in being kept for sometime and eventually shipped to the States when able to be moved. He was hospitalized in States for sometime.
