Activity During WWII

Joined Enlisted Reserve Corps (ERC) on December 11, 1942 at Raleigh, North Carolina. Called to active duty on April 14, 1943 at Fort Bragg, North Carolina. Trained at Camp Croft, South Carolina and sent to Fort George G. Meade, Maryland. Overseas from October 21, 1943 until May 5, 1945. Served in Europe with 112th Infantry of the 28th Division. Was a prisoner of war in Stalag 9B in Germany. Discharged October 12, 1945 at Camp Blanding, Florida. Awarded Purple Heart, Good Conduct Medal, European-African-Middle Eastern Ribbon with 4 Battle Stars (Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland, Ardennes) and Combat Infantryman Badge.
