He served in the 486th Anti-Aircraft Artillery Automatic Weapons Battalion 'Anti-Anything' from St. Lo and through the Battle of the Bulge, to Cologne and into the Ruhr Pocket. He received his Purple Heart for wounds incurred during fighting in Aachen.
