INDUCTED INTO THE U.S. ARMY JUNE 6, 1944 AT CAMP DODGE, DES MOINES, IOWA. HE TOOK HIS BASIC TRAINING AT CAMP HOOD, TEXAS. TRANSFERRED TO CAMP MILES STANDISH, MASSACHUSETTS IN DECEMBER 1944. EMBARKED FROM SOUTHAMPTON, ENGLAND TO FRANCE, JOINING COMPANY G, 180TH INFANTRY, 45TH DIVISION. BATTLES AND SKIRMISHES IN THE RHINELAND THROUGH TO THE BLACK FOREST IN GERMANY, WHERE HE WAS WOUNDED MARCH 16, 1945. HE WAS RETURNED TO THE UNITED STATES MAY 11, 1945 AND WAS CONFINED TO MILITARY HOSPITALS, NAMELY IN UTAH. HE WAS DISCHARGED AT PERCY JONES HOSPITAL IN FORT CUSTER, MICHIGAN WITH THE RANK OF PRIVATE FIRST CLASS ON FEBRUARY 27, 1946. HE WAS AWARDED THE EUROPEAN-AFRICAN-MIDDLE EASTERN THEATER RIBBON WITH 1 BRONZE STAR, COMBAT INFANTRYMAN BADGE, PURPLE HEART, GOOD CONDUCT MEDAL, PRESIDENTIAL UNIT CITATION, AMERICAN THEATER AND WWII VICTORY MEDALS.
