Activity During WWII

Enlisted November 1940. Inducted February 1941 at Fort Snelling, Minnesota. Boot camp training at Camp Roberts, California. Assigned to Battery B of the 9th Field Artillery Battalion, 3rd Infantry Division. Amphibious training at Fort Ord, California. Communications Artillery, Forward observer and supply. Battles: Tunisia, Algeria, Sicily, Southern Italy, Anzio, Rome, Southern France, Colmar Pocket, Strasbourg, Salzburg, Austria, and Neunkirchen, Germany. Discharged August 1945 as Staff Sergeant. Awarded the Purple Heart with clusters, Presidential Citation, French Croix de Guerre, and all the ribbons that go with the 3rd Division, 11 Battle Stars.
