I entered the U.S. Army at Fort Lincoln, North Dakota September 1940. In 1946 re-enlisted at Fort Snelling, Minnesota. Came back from Europe with the 81st Tank Destroyer Battalion. Retired from the strategic air command 1965 General Lemay, Army Chief of Staff, also previously my commander at Offutt Air Force Base, Nebraska where I entered the Air Force in 1953. Technician 5th grade rank, light 30 caliber Machine Gunner, 501st parachute regiment during the Battle of the Bulge, Belgium. Many close calls, continued to Alsace-Lorraine. Received certificate of merit as outstanding Machine Gunner from General Taylor, received Bronze Star, Combat Badge, Parachutist Badge, Presidential citation with Cluster. 1946 was assigned to 82nd Airborne. During war ended up at Hitler's hideout at Berchtesgaden, Germany, 101st Airborne, captured Herman Goering. My General Taylor escorted Goering. Retired from Military in 1965 after serving in Morocco and Spain.
