Served on Boeing B-17 Riveter from May 1940 to May 1942 and on B-17 as radio operator/gunner (Europe) from March 1944 to April 1944. Was severely wounded by enemy Aircraft on May 12, 1944 - bailed out. Pilots were dead; POW on May 13, 1945. Liberated by Soviets on May 1, 1945. Carried to Normandy in a B-17 on May 13, 1945. Awarded an Air Medal, POW Medal and Purple Heart.
