DONALD SERVED IN THE 339TH FIGHTER SQUADRON, 347TH FIGHTER GROUP FORMED IN NEW CALEDONIA. DONALD WAS KILLED FLYING A P-38 WHILE ESCORTING BOMBERS ON A RAID OVER BOUGAINVILLE. HE WAS AWARDED THE AIR MEDAL AND PURPLE HEART.
