Activity During WWII

Entered the service with the Illinois National Guard September 23, 1940. Inducted into the regular army on March 5, 1941. Stationed in the U.S. at Camp Forest, Tennessee; Fort Lewis, Washington; Camp Hood, Texas and Fort Jackson, South Carolina. Left for the European-African-Middle Eastern Theatre on December 26, 1944 and arrived January 9, 1945. Served with the 28th Infantry of the Pennsylvania keystone battalion. In combat at Ardennes, Rhineland and Central Europe. Awarded the European-African-Middle Eastern service ribbon with 3 battle stars, 1 service stripe, 1 overseas service bar, good conduct medal, WWII victory medal and combat infantryman badge. Left for the U.S. July 28, 1945 and arrived August 4, 1945. Separated from service October 5, 1945 as a first Sergeant.
