Activity During WWII

Inducted June 7, 1943. After training in the United States, he was sent to the European Theater in November, 1944. He survived the sinking of the Leopoldville while crossing the English Channel on December 24, 1944, for which he was awarded a Purple Heart. He served as an infantry squad leader (Staff Sergeant) in the 264th Infantry Regiment, 66th Infantry Division around Lorient, France from January 1945 to the end of the war, May 8, 1945. After war ended he also served in Southern France (Arles) and then as a Combat Engineer in Vienna, Austria, until his honorable discharge on April 12, 1946.
