As a Navigator on a B-17 Flying Fortress in the 381st Bomb Group, 8th Air Force. Was shot down near Paris in September 1943. He was a Prisoner of War in Stalag Luft III in Germany with Colonel Delmar Spivey until May 1945 when he was liberated by General Patton in person from camp at Moosburg, Bavaria.
