Enlisted U.S. Army, February 1941. Served in Artillery unit at Camp Stewart, Savannah, GEORGIA, then Staff SERGEANT at Aberdeen Proving Ground, MARYLAND. As a Lieutenant after Officer Candidate School, began flight training at Maxwell Field, ALABAMA. Assigned to 15th Air Force, Mediterranean Theater. Pilot of B-24 Liberator bomber, based outside Cerignola, Italy. Promoted to 1ST Lieutenant. Returned from Italy and became Test Pilot at Wright Field, Dayton OHIO. Discharged in October 1945. RECEIVED THE European-African- Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon, Air Medal, American Defense Service Medal, AND Presidential Unit Citation.
